Outdoor Education

Our Philosophy:

Because we do not have a traditional physical education program, many students receive P. E. credit through our outdoor program. With our outdoor program, we offer more credit to students in need.

Our students' previous experiences in school have left them disillusioned with school, doubting their self-worth and distrusting adults. Through our outdoor education program, we provide students with unique opportunities and experiences in which their self-confidence and teamwork skills are enhanced.

In our outdoor program, students will gain insight into their own lives as well as compassion for others. These courses force students to challenge themselves in different ways. Students will be exposed to situations in which thier previous boundaries of fitness, communication, and trust are stretched. Our outdoor education program is the heart of our school serving a crucial role.

Mission: Wolf

One of our Outdoor Education trips that is a little closer to home is the Mission: Wolf experience. You can watch the video for more information about this opportunity, or visit https://missionwolf.org/day-visits/ to schedule your own visit!

UPCOMING TRIP INFORMATION

After a year and a half without our beloved Outdoor Education program (due to COVID-19 restrictions and safety regulations), we are happy to announce that we will be adding these programs back into our schedule for the 2021-2022 school year! More information will be shared as details are finalized.

  • 2022 Wolf Trip: April 30-May 1
The culture of Oakes has close ties to the wolf. Wolf Trip is a special event each year where students have the opportunity to be volunteers for the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center in Divide, CO. In this way, students earn 14 community service hours and 1/8 of a science credit toward their graduation requirements. In addition to volunteer hours, students will participate in a one hour private tour of the facility including supervised and safe interactions with some of the wolves.

Below are various forms and documents that your student might need to use to go on a trip.
